Michael Joseph

LEAP PROJECT ARTIST

Michael is a highly experienced and versatile dance practitioner having worked across the sector for 38 years as an educator, community artist, dancer, choreographer, film maker and most recently scholar attaining a master’s degree at Middlesex University London in 2020.

Michael’s practice utilises contemporary, Hip Hop, martial arts movement vocabulary and his teaching practice ranges from delivering advanced level technical training in vocational and HE settings, to working with different community groups with a focus on inclusion, particularly around disabled participants. As a teacher/tutor, he prides himself on encouraging excellence from students, achieving this through differentiating based on the needs of the individuals. He is also passionate about promoting and encouraging dance for all and most specifically encouraging and inspiring young men and boys in dance. As a male of colour I can relate to their experience in both education and dance.
