Dancing with Light for Schools project (2022)
January 26, 2023ARCHIVE: Improvising Generations (2022)

OVERVIEW
Improvising Generations was a programme of live and online fun dance activity, bringing disabled and non-disabled adults, older adults and families together for daily interaction, in Hertfordshire, from September 2021 to June 2022. The sessions included: soundscape and movement with JollyBeats, visual arts design and movement with Anji Archer, Moving Memory Dance Theatre workshop, outdoors and movement with Maga Judd, Green Connections workshop and dance with Laura Horn.
“There is a massive increase of connection, being able to really see everyone again and feel their energies in the room. I really treasure and look forward to it each month!”
AIMS
To support a community that told us they'd lost motivation and confidence and had increased anxieties because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Dance was the tool to build connections across a community group with the primary aims of lessening the pandemic’s negative effects on participants’ feelings of loneliness and subjective wellbeing.
HEADLINE FINDINGS
Group consultation about future sessions points to:
- Spend more time delving deeper into different sessions
- Look into movement and mobility as a way of managing daily pains and aches
- Exploring mental health management through art and mindfulness
