OVERVIEW
Illustrations can be created in many ways using different materials and techniques. This worksheet will guide you through one of these mediums by using ink and watercolour paper. These illustrations can be created using just the ink or you can get creative and mix mediums such as adding text or collage techniques.
Introduction to being an artist
RESOURCE LIST
• Black ink
• Water
• A selection of brushes
• Pencil
• Eraser
• Watercolour paper
• Uniball black pen (or equivalent)
Start by sketching a character or object with a pencil that you would like to draw.
With a brush, apply water to areas you want the ink to disperse.
Next dip your brush in the ink and dot it on the page where you just placed the water. Watch the ink disperse.
Slowly build up the layers of ink across your drawing. Using varying amounts of ink and water will make parts of your character/object darker or lighter and will add depth to your drawings. You can also add a wash of ink to the background of your drawing.
Once you are happy with the ink on your page, use a black ink pen to fill in some of the finer details to complete the illustration.
TOP TIP
Use a mixture of mediums within your illustrations to create multi-Disciplinary artworks.
